September 2018 – ECC News
Our new school year began on August 13th and we’ve been off to a great start! In addition to a successful summer camp filled with fun Eric Carle-themed activities, our ECC staff spent the first week of August learning and growing as professionals. To kick off the week, Marci Mayer Eisen, from Jewish Federation of St. Louis shared her knowledge with us, talking about our individual and shared values while working on the school community we create for each other and our families. Next, we welcomed Jen Lotsoff, Coordinator for PJ Library, who introduced us to all the amazing teaching tools provided by PJ Goes to School (a companion program to PJ Library), so we can better incorporate these books and Jewish values into our curriculum. Our entire staff also received their annual CPR and First Aid certification training. But that’s not all that kept our staff busy! Had you walked down the hallway during this week, you would have seen teachers painting, assembling furniture, rearranging their room layouts and preparing to meet their new classes.
Inspired by our time spent with last year’s ShinShin and looking forward to welcoming this year’s, we have introduced a school-wide Hebrew Word of the Week. So far, teachers have taught the children shalom (hello, goodbye, peace), chaverim (friends), savta (grandmother), saba (grandfather), tapuach (apple), and d’vash (honey).
And last, mark your calendars now for December 2, 2018! KRECC is thrilled to be hosting our family and community Hannukah program and book fair at Barnes and Nobles at Ladue Crossing. This is our big annual fundraiser with a portion of all purchases donated to our school. We look forward to seeing you there!
